Open to All

Membership in AAPC is open to all who support AAPC's mission to bring healing, hope, and wholeness to individuals, families, and communities. The primary benefit of membership is to be a formal participant in the dialogue on the integration of spirituality and one's professional practice.

AAPC Membership

AAPC offers four membership categories:

  • Member - Regular: For current pastoral counselors, academics and other professionals.
    • Dues vary by Region and will be displayed as you go through the new membership or renewal process
  • Member - Student: For students currently enrolled in an academic program or seminary at the undergraduate or graduate level. Students can extend their status for one year after graduation.
    • Dues are $25 per year regardless of your Region
  • Member - Retired: An exclusive benefit for current AAPC members in good standing that are transitioning out of full-time professional practice. It is designated to encourage those with the most experience to actively contribute to the future of our profession. You must currently be a member in good standing in order to convert your membership to retired. You cannot join AAPC as a retired member.
    • Dues are $100 per year regardless of your Region.
  • Member - Institutional: AAPC offers institutions, businesses, counseling centers and other organizations that embrace and support AAPC's mission a range of customized benefits. To learn more about the benefits of becoming an institutional member contact AAPC today at:

A Note for Members Who Joined Prior to 2017

In the years before state, provincial and other governmental licensure and certification requirements, AAPC provided the standards and credentials for many in the field of pastoral counseling. While AAPC has discontinued the certifications, AAPC members worked hard to distinguish themselves by pursuing:

  • Diplomate

  • Fellow

  • Certified Pastoral Counselor

  • Pastoral Care Specialist

While AAPC’s simplified membership and thus its current streamlined dues structure are no longer tied to these achievements, we invite all AAPC members who have worked hard to earn them, to continue to use them as a point of distinction and commitment to the profession.

A Note for Southeast Region Members

The Southeast Region offers additional membership categories for Diplomate and Fellow at higher dues rates for renewing members. These options will be offered to members of the Region as they go through the membership renewal process.
