Networking, Meals and Music for your Listening Pleasure!

Diverse, Historcal, Prosperous, Culturally, Sophisticated… Just a Fun Place!

Welcome to Hampton Roads, “the nation’s most diverse region,” (per a recent University of Wisconsin study) home to 1.6 million people and the thirtyfirst largest metropolitan area (MSA) in the United States. It is also America’s First Region, sight of the first landing at Cape Henry in 1607 and the first permanent English settlement in the New World. This “birthplace of colonial America” is rich in history, prosperous, culturally sophisticated and simply put, just a fun place to live, work and visit.

Nestled in the heart of Hampton Roads is the charming waterfront city of Norfolk, site of our 45th annual conference. After an educational day with colleagues, we invite you to take a leisurely stroll along the Elizabeth River, or take a paddle boat ride to old town Portsmouth and browse the antique shops. Enjoy an afternoon at the VIRGINIA ZOOLOGICAL PARK, home to more than 350 wild creatures from ostriches to long necked giraffes. Few places are more perfect for spiritual renewal than the 155 acre BOTANICAL GARDENS, with more than 4,000 azaleas, 2,000 rhododendrons, 100 bushels of daffodils and several thousand shrubs and trees strategically placed among swan-laden lakes. Check out the whales and pet the turtles at the VIRGINIA AQUARIUM & MARINE SCIENCE MUSEUM.

Within easy walking distance of our hotel are a variety of fine dining experiences. Take a bit of Norfolk home with you from the new ACARTHUR CENTER, 140 retail stores and specialty shops. Enjoy the wide variety of cultural experiences including the nationally acclaimed CHRYSLER MUSEUM OF ART, an enclave of more than 30,000 original works on display or the 8,000-object glass collection considered the most significant collection of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. The performing arts include the Virginia Opera, the Virginia Ballet Theatre, the Virginia Chorale, the Norfolk Chamber Consort, Broadway at Chrysler Hall, The Virginia Stage Company and more. Or then again, you may prefer the comedy club. Cruise the world’s largest natural harbor aboard the top-sail schooner American Rover, or dine and dance through the evening cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk. Plan your next Caribbean cruise in the new state-of-the-art $36 million Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center, the first in the nation to fully comply with Homeland Security standards. Explore 225 years of naval history at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, home to the USS Wisconsin, one of the largest and last U.S. battleships.

Why not bring the family and enjoy an extra day or two in our nation’s capital, just a four hour drive through rolling Virginia countryside. Or step back in time and stroll along famous Duke of Gloucester Street or Merchants Square in Colonial Williamsburg, less than two hours away. Experience 18th century society as you browse historic buildings and talk with trades people applying their crafts. Beach lovers can enjoy one of the nation’s cleanest beaches just minutes away in Virginia Beach.

Your Local Arrangements Committee is eager to make this one of your most enjoyable and memorable conferences! Come join the fun and bring the family!
